Club Member Testimonies

Patterson, Tom Mustang.jpg
"I acquired my Mustang from my older brother in 1996. He purchased the Mustang from the original owner in Denver, Colorado. The car is a rare “S” code 390V8 coupe...after 4-years restoration, a beautiful Springtime yellow Mustang emerged. I was a member of the Mustang Club of Houston for 25 years and now have served on the board of directors for the South Central Kansas Mustang Club since 2021. My greatest enjoyment as a club member is the camaraderie of fellow ‘gear-heads” and family orientation."

Our Story

Founded in February of 1993, the South Central Mustang Club of Kansas was born out of a shared passion for Mustangs and a desire to reconnect with the local car community. After a previous Wichita Mustang Club dissolved in the late 1980s, Barry Leopold and Charlie Sawyer stepped forward with the idea to start fresh. Their passion brought together a whole room of enthusiasts - but the momentum didn't stop there.

Within a year, the club hosted its first annual Mustang car show in 1994, and took place on Douglas Avenue in downtown Wichita. This first event marked the beginning of a tradition that has continued every year since, even adapting to a Show & Shine event during the Covid-19 pandemic. More than 30 years later, the annual show remains a cornerstone of the club and a point of pride for its members.

From the beginning, the club has been about more than just cars. While members bond over cruises, car shows, and garage visits, the South Central Kansas Mustang Club also has a reputation of giving back to the community. Over the years the club has supported local organizations such as the Kansas Food Bank, Child Advocacy Center, Passageways, and local chapters of the American Heart Association and Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The club is open to everyone - car guys and gals, longtime collectors, and new enthusiasts alike. For many, the club provides not just a place to show their car if they have one, but a place to belong. More than three decades later, the South Central Kansas Mustang Club continues to thrive - powered by passion, friendship, and a commitment to both Mustangs and the community they call home.
